The icu or icm (in the USA) is a sophisticated safety aid for fire fighters. It is part of the breathing apparatus and switches on an 'automatic man down' alarm when the air is turned on. It also provides additional information to the fire-fighter such as temperature, time remaining (based on actual breathing rates) as well as data logging all pressures, temperatures and alarms for later uploading via infra red link to a pc.

• The temperature sensing unit (thermistor) measures heat on an average with a long time
• It has been designed for maximum reliability and durability with the use of a new solid state accelerometer to detect the movement of a firefighter
• Provides the user with a digital display of: battery status, cylinder pressure, heat alarm and remaining service time
• Transmits 1/4 increment cylinder pressure status, pass pre-alarm warnings and battery status to the bud receiver via short range digitally coded radio signal
